How to get to the_blacklibrary
The first thing to do, is to go by http://www.secondlife.com/ and download a copy of the Second Life client. The trial offers vary, but you can usually get a limited free period to try it out. At the time of writing, Second Life works on a two-tier membership system. The basic tier involves you paying $10USD for a permanent membership. This allows you to do pretty much anything in the game except own your own land and is more than adequate for just visiting the _blacklibrary.
When you've installed the client, created an account and connected to the world you'll have to endure a short tutorial. this involves making your way from one end of the starter-island to the other, picking up some basic skills along the way.
The various points on Orientation Island will help you change your appearance, give you a crash course in chatting to other players and then teach you how to fly.
The Exit at the end of the island then offers you four locations at which to enter the main Second Life world.
This is the Welcome Area. For future reference, this is not a bad place to end up in. There is lots of free stuff available and player-mentors frequent the area if you need further explanation of anything.
At the bottom of the screen you'll see a row of buttons, one of these will say 'Map'. This is your map. The map window shows the whole Second Life 'grid' and other players are marked as green dots. On the right is a cluttered-looking column containing the map key and other items. The one you want is the Region Drop-down List. Drop this down and find the name of our region 'Furness'. Then click the button underneath it marked "Teleport".
You can use the map to teleport around, but the closest you can get to any location by map-teleport is the nearest 'Telehub'. The nearest Telehub to the _blacklibrary is Grizedale, you will have to fly the rest of the way by pressing Page Up to gain a decent height and then steering towards the red beacon that marked Furness when you chose it from the map.
While you're flying use the Page Up key to maintain some height. Buildings load ("rez") in front of you and it can get a bit sticky if you're flying along and then suddenly find yourself trapped inside someone's house.
Follow the beacon all the way to the centre of the Furness region.
It's a short walk across the road to the _blacklibrary's front door.
