About two months ago, we were searching for a title for a new track we’d completed about Identity Cards. I’ve studied Privacy Theory and have a few books regarding the subject from both the philosophical debate around personal and communal privacy, and the technology that frames and determines these moral/functional boundaries.

Wandering Yaffle 9: Construction Complete - by always_black

I won’t bore you with the the step-by-step account of the construction of the new _blacklibrary, I’ll just take you on a tour of the new building.

The first thing to notice is that the new building is much, much bigger. One of the lessons I learned from the previous attempt was that closed-in structures aren’t that easy to get around. There’s something decidedly clunky about avatar movement in Second Life, the animations appear jerky, you tend to over-run and over-fly things, bump into stuff, it all seems very unpolished in that respect.

Ah well, it’s a learning process, after all. There’s no getting around the fact that the plot in Hibdon is too small for my grand design ideas. Better to sell-up and find a bigger area to develop.

Luckily, it seems I’ve paid under the odds for my Hibdon plot, a quick scan of other plots for sale in the area shows that, unbeknown to me, the plot had been put on the market at a very generous price, maybe for a quick sale. I’d paid $2600 Linden Dollars for 1024 sqare meters, but I priced it up for sale at $4500 and it was snapped up within the day leaving me with a healthy couple of grand profit.

Walls! Every parcel of land that you own has a limit to the number of objects you can create on it. For this reason it’s important to be as frugal as possible with your building. Luckily there are a few tricks you can use to cut down the number of objects your design takes up.

Brave New World, sang David Essex in 1976 on Jeff Wayne’s rock-opera version of War of the Worlds. Essex played the Artilleryman, trying to carve out utopia from the walls of a cellar with his bare hands.

Such a tragic figure in Well’s novel, the Artilleryman. A one man resistance to an unstoppable foe, lost to his dream in the face of a murderous reality, without even the fellow deluded for company.

There’s an ill wind beginning to blow across the land of Norrath, and it has nothing to do with dragons.

The problem for my Bard - now a buffed level 54 - has its origins in a realm he has no idea exists. He’s faced dragons (and died admittedly). He’s faced rampaging giants, crystal spiders, nightmarish hate-filled spirit entities, and even demi-gods.

It’s time to get more involved with this Second Life thing. Wandering around is all well and good but seeing all of these industrious goings on as an observer I can’t help feeling that I’m not really getting under its skin. It’s time to stake a claim.

Breach - By Nick H

I always feel uneasy as a SEAL on a breach board. That is to say, the SEALs tend to have an uphill battle on their hands when they must breach inside a terrorist compound, eliminate the defenses, gain control of the target area, and then plant a bomb to blow up the terrorists’ soft spot while keeping at least one team member alive. All under five minutes or we lose.

Hello, it’s me.

Just thought I had to mention this, as I’ve received an e-mail from my old boss. As some of you know, I did a tour of Canada and the US in 1993 as a sound engineer, paid for by Sony blood, and our American driver, Bob Butler, attempted to kill us by conducting wild experiments into male multi-tasking, AKA sleeping whilst driving.
